Understanding Viscosity Differences in Water Measurement
When three online viscometers are installed on the same pipeline to measure tap water, their readings may differ. According to the supplied technical guidance, differences can result from water temperature, regional variations in water properties, and individual instrument calibration.
For tap water, the viscosity may range from approximately 0.9 to 1.7 cP under different conditions. The recommended measurement tolerance is below 0.3 cP for readings under 10 cP, and within 3% for readings above 10 cP.
Each instrument should be calibrated using the actual medium being measured. After installation, differences caused by instrument structure and calibration can be corrected through deviation adjustment.
For consistent results, operators should compare all three instruments under the same conditions and verify their readings against a calibrated reference.
